Some links say ALL, some say just 2014-2016.

I’m sure it’ll be fine. And I’m sure there’s noooo chance that it’ll get damaged while in the shop...

At least they are doing a recal. I fixed a fuel leak on my Impreza when it was about 5 years old, squirting fuel right on top of the engine! The fuel odor was a dead give away. I was able to tighten the fuel lines with the screwdriver included with the tool kit.

Mazda’s press release is saying 2014-2016. Some things did change with the 2014, of course, but I wouldn't think the fuel filler neck would be one of them.

I think there was a recall for that. I remember hearing about it when I had my Legacy and noticed how nice and new the fuel hoses and clamps were on my rusty old fuel filter.

Yeah, but something tells me Mazda still thinks it has something to prove - they’re not fucking around. They’re going to check all of ‘em.

Yet when they recalled the CX-9 for balljoint issues, they said “No accidents or injuries have been reported” and at that same moment we had a CX-9 in the shop with a separated balljoint that crashed into a ditch and fucked up more than just a control arm.
Mazda quietly paid to fix the car, both the recall part, and the subsequent body damage.

1) did they notify you quickly enough to get it in for repair? 2) at least they stepped up; 3) still, where there’s a possibility of injury or death, do not fuck around.

Oh it wasn’t on ours. We traded it in for the CX-5 right before the recall came out.
But others were not as lucky. We were replacing control arms for YEARS before the recall, and the crashed one happened just DAYS before the recall was released to the public via letters. And that was back before they had replacement parts readily available.
Their fix was janky too, new control arms (nothing different at all about them) and a thin metal shield to keep the balljoint boot from being damaged or letting debris in.

Not good.
There’s another issue here - notice. If you are notified and get your car in within a month, that’s adequate. If you are notified and take four months, and on the way to the dealership the part fails and you’re injured, the defense will be that your delay was unreasonable. And on those facts, the manufacturer would likely win more often than not.
That’s just the lawyer part of my brain making noise.

Just occurred to me - Mazda, after bungling one recall, is determined not to fuck up this one. I also recall (pun intended), back in the early 2000s, I think it was the Mazda 3, that had the unfortunate habit of catching on fire. But they fixed it!
